Vol. 327 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garnish (County Cork) Pier Improvement.

49.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry whether plans have been approved and funds sanctioned for the improvement of the pier at Garnish in the Beara Peninsula, County Cork.

A plan for the improvement of Garnish pier, Dursey, County Cork in the fisheries interest has been drawn up. The plan has been put before the local fishermen. The fishermen have not been able to agree on the improvements proposed and this has held up progress.

My Department will continue to pursue the matter with a view to drawing up a scheme which will be broadly acceptable to the fishermen and justifiable on cost grounds.

Can the Minister give any information to the House as to the difference between the plan proposed by the Department and the one proposed by the local fishermen and the different costs involved?

I have not got that kind of information. I can give the Deputy an estimate of the costs of the different works.

With all due respect to the Minister, does he feel a blush of shame on his cheeks at having been put in here to answer questions about which he knows absolutely nothing?

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

On a point of order, could we have some guarantee that the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry will be here tomorrow? There is no point——

That is not a point of order. The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
