Vol. 327 No. 7

Written Answers. - Douglas (County Cork) New Garda Headquarters.

337.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the new Garda headquarters envisaged for Douglas, County Cork.

It is proposed to erect a new garda station in Douglas to replace the existing one and the Office of Public Works is currently seeking a suitable site.

With regard to the status of the station to be provided, the position is that a study team made up of personnel from the Garda Síochána and the Department of the Public Service is at present examining how Garda resources in Cork city can best be organised in order to provide the most effective Garda service for the city. The report of the team, which I hope to receive in about two months time, will include recommendations as to which city stations should be designated as district headquarters stations.
