Vol. 327 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medicine Sales to Farming Community.

375.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to restrict the sale of medicines to the farming community by people other than veterinary surgeons and pharmacists.

It is presumed that the question relates to the draft poisons regulations to be made under section 14 of the Poisons Act, 1961.

Proposals are now being discussed with the farming organisations and other interests involved which might restrict the sale of certain medicines for animal use, which come within the scope of the poisons regulations, to licensed outlets as well as providing for sales by pharmacists and supply by veterinary surgeons for the treatment of animals under their care. I have, however, taken no decision on this.
