Vol. 327 No. 7

Written Answers. - Oyster Fisheries Licence.

407.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will accede to the request of the South Galway Oyster Fisheries Action Committee, conveyed at their meeting with him on Saturday, 17 January 1981, to revoke the oyster fisheries licence granted to a company (details supplied) so as to secure the livelihood of the 300 fishermen involved and their families.

I am not satisfied that there are legal grounds for revoking the Oyster Fishery Order granted to the St. George Oyster Fishery Co. Ltd. I consider that the matter can best be dealt with by a co-operative arrangement between the local fishermen and the grantees of the order. Accordingly I am arranging to again meet representatives of the local fishermen with a view to promoting a harmonious working relationship between both parties.
