Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

409.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be installed for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin.

It is expected that service will be provided later this year when the necessary cable becomes available.

410.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be installed for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who is an old age pensioner and living alone.

Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the Dublin area at present, is unlikely to be undertaken for at least a year.

411.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a person (details supplied) in County Dublin will receive a telephone which he urgently needs for work reasons having regard to the fact that he was informed that he would receive service in autumn 1977, then in early 1978 and subsequently in 1979; and if he is aware that the delay in receiving a telephone is severely affecting his business which he runs from his home.

The application referred to is for a residential line. It is expected that service will be provided following the completion of necessary cabling towards the end of the year.

There is no record of any of the forecasts mentioned having been given.

412.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of new telephones his Department expect to install in the West Cork area during 1981.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone service will be restored to an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin who has been without service for over one month.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the serious health factors in a case (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if in the circumstances he will arrange to supply the telephone which was applied for over four years ago.

Service for this applicant is dependent on the provision of additional cabling in the area. Because of the volume of engineering work awaiting attention in Dublin it is unlikely that this work will be completed until about a year's time. The health factors referred to have not been brought to the notice of my Department.

415.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be provided in a case (details supplied) in County Dublin.

Service is dependent on the provision of additional cabling. Because of the volume of engineering work on hands in the Dublin area at present it is unlikely that service will be provided for at least a year.

416.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the telephone of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has not worked for four months; why there has been a delay in restoring service; when the line will be restored; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Service to the subscriber has been interrupted on a number of occasions over the last four months because of cable and instrument faults. Service has now been restored and special attention will be paid to this line during the coming months.

417.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will waive the extra charges involved in a telephone extension allocation for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin.

The subscriber in this case could have requested a plug and socket arrangement which is available under the free telephone rental scheme. This will now be provided and no charge will be raised in respect of the extension.

418.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a telephone which was installed over three months ago has not yet been connected for a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and when it will be connected.

The telephone was not connected because of an unexpected problem at the exchange. This is being remedied and it is expected that service will be provided within the next three weeks or so.
