Vol. 327 No. 10

Written Answers. - IDA Grants.

156.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if any grant has been paid to the owners of a firm (details supplied) in County Waterford which closed some months ago for a similar project of theirs elsewhere in the State.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that certain arrangements were approved in 1979 in connection with the proposed modernisation and re-equipment of the firm in County Waterford to which the Deputy refers and of an associate firm. These arrangements included grant assistance and the purchase by the IDA of the Waterford premises.

Before any grants were paid, however, the Waterford firm closed, but production continued in the other firm. The IDA have made certain grant repayments arising from their commitment in respect of the latter firm.

Grant assistance has not been paid in respect of the Waterford factory and steps are being taken by the IDA to recover, in full, the cost to them of the factory premises.
