asked the Minister for Justice how many of the additional 2,000 gardaí who were promised in September 1980 have been recruited.
Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.
16.
As I indicated in reply to a question by the Deputy on 19 February, the current maximum strength of the Garda Síochána as prescribed in the Garda Síochána (Ranks) Order, 1979 is 10,002. The actual strength on 28 February was 9,871, and recruitment from the last examination is still proceeding.
Since 1 September 1980 a total of 207 recruits have been appointed to the force and a further 115 are due to be appointed within the next three months. Thereafter, further recruitment will depend on the results of the next entrance competition, which will be held later this year.
