Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Department of Defence Auxiliary Vessels

asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the high level of redundancies in Irish shipyards, he will expedite the replacement of his Department's auxiliary vessels as outlined in the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 268 of 15 April 1980.

The replacement of my Department's auxiliary vessels will be arranged according as the need arises and all relevant factors, including those mentioned by the Deputy, will be taken into account.

Is the Minister aware that the launches in question are pre-1938 and that a little expenditure on the boatyards which are starved for jobs, could give very worthwhile employment? Would the Minister have a look at that aspect?

I certainly will.

Bring them into the marina in Ringsend.
