Vol. 328 No. 8

Written Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

345.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding sanction for the first phase of the Bundoran water supply scheme, County Donegal.

I have approved the acceptance of tenders for contract No. 1 — filter plant; contract No. 2 — pumping plant; and contract No. 3 — pipelaying and reservoir. The council are now in a position to complete the preparation of contract documents for the remaining contract No. 4 — which currently comprises the intake and treatment works but which is to be revised to include a proposed new distribution main for fire fighting in Bundoran.

347.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning the augmentation of the Dungarvan town/Waterford supply scheme as the proposal has been with his Department for over a year.

Contract documents for the Dungarvan town water supply scheme are under consideration in my Department but I cannot as yet say when I will be in a position to approve them. The proposals must be considered in the context of the overall resources available for the sanitary services programme and the number of fully approved schemes in progress or getting to construction at the present time, including such major projects as the east Waterford water supply scheme.
