Written Answers. - County Donegal Schools.

108.

asked the Minister for Education when the grant for improvements to Meentindea school in Ardara, County Donegal, which includes new windows, doors, seating, heating and tarmacadam, will be sanctioned.

The reverend chairman of the board of management has been authorised to carry out essential improvements to Meentindea national school and it is understood that a substantial amount of work has been done. A grant will be paid towards the cost of the works when a report thereon has been received from the Commissioners of Public Works.

110.

asked the Minister for Education if a recreation hall will be built as part of the new extension to Stranorlar school, County Donegal.

I assume that the Deputy's question refers to St. Columba's College, Stranorlar.

I have recently approved the seeking of tenders for a major extension to this school. The project includes for the provision of an area for dining, assembly and recreation purposes.

The school authorities have also applied for a grant for a physical education hall. Their application has been listed for consideration in due course.

111.

asked the Minister for Education when the grant will be paid in respect of Neillmore school, Killybegs, County Donegal; and when the extension will be sanctioned.

The accommodation requirements of Niall Mór national school have recently been the subject of an extensive survey. This survey is at present being considered in conjunction with a report from the Commissioners of Public Works as to the feasibility of extending the school and a decision will be reached as quickly as possible. The sanctioning of a grant does not arise at this stage.

A report is awaited from the Commissioners of Public Works regarding the repairs that have been carried out to the old school building to render it suitable as temporary accommodation. A grant will be sanctioned towards the cost of the work on receipt of the commissioners' recommendation.

112.

asked the Minister for Education when the extension to Fintra school, Killybegs, County Donegal, will be built; and when drinking water will be provided.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that it is necessary to have a full site survey carried out in relation to the site which the chairman has offered for the proposed extension to Fintra national school, Killybegs, in order to determine its suitability. It is not possible at this stage to state when building work may commence.

There are no formal proposals before my Department at present for the installation of a supply of drinking water in the existing school but the matter will be discussed with the school authorities.

113.

asked the Minister for Education when the extension to the Commons school, Killybegs, County Donegal, will be built.

The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to report on the suitability of a plot of land which adjoins Commons national school and which the school authorities have suggested may be available for the building of the proposed extension to the school.

It is not possible to state at this stage when building work may commence.
