Vol. 328 No. 13

Written Answers. - Kinsale (Cork) Garda Strength.

222.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will authorise an immediate increase in the number of gardaí in Kinsale, County Cork, particularly during the tourist season and arrange for the location of a patrol car there on a permanent basis.

The detailed deployment of Garda resources is a matter to be decided primarily by the commissioner. The precise arrangements for policing particular local areas are made by or in consultation with the local Garda officers.

The Garda authorities have informed me that the permanent strength of one sergeant and five gardaí allocated to Kinsale is the maximum that can be provided at present having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services but that an additional garda will be allocated there for the summer season.

The Garda authorities consider that the allocation of a patrol car to the centre would not be warranted at present having regard to the strength of the station party, but the matter will be kept under review.
