Vol. 329 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

15.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve contract documents for the Rosmuc water supply scheme, County Galway which were forwarded to his Department by Galway County Council some time ago.

Galway County Council's proposals for this scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the need to provide finance for the large number of fully approved schemes in progress or getting to construction in County Galway including the following:

Dunmore Glenmaddy water supply scheme,

Inishmore water supply improvement scheme,

Galway City west water supply scheme,

Mid-Galway water supply scheme,

Oughterard water supply scheme,

Athenry sewerage scheme.

In the circumstances, I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision on the contract documents for the scheme.

16.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the extension of Mallow sewerage scheme to Quartertown, Mallow, County Cork as all the local residente have signed a petition in the matter.

There are no proposals before my Department for the extension of Mallow sewerage scheme to Quartertown. I understand, however, that the local authority has requested the consulting engineer to prepare a report on an extension of the scheme to serve the area in question. The submission of this report is awaited.

In view of the urgent need for a sewerage scheme in this area, could the Minister say when such a scheme could be undertaken, particularly as major sewerage works are being carried out in Mallow at present?

As soon as I get the information in my Department I will make a decision on it.
