Vol. 330 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Dublin Water Scheme.

378.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will ensure that adequate moneys are made available to Dublin County Council to complete the second phase of the Athgoe/Castlewarden water scheme.

The local authority have been advised by my Department that the cost of the proposed extension of this scheme was excessively high, while the work involved, rural water supply distribution, was of a category which in other areas was carried out by private groups, and which would not command a high priority in the public programme.

Having regard to the need to conserve capital for schemes of the highest priority I cannot say when a decision can be conveyed to Dublin County Council thereon.
