Vol. 330 No. 6

Written Answers. - Food Price Increases.

556.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of food items that have increased in price since 1 August 1981.

In the period since 1 August 1981 price increases for 13 food items have been approved following recommendations of the National Prices Commission.

The Deputy will be aware, however, from my announcement of 2 November 1981 that reductions are coming into effect in the price of certain breakfast cereals and a range of frozen foods as a result of the improvement in the import costs of those products due to the recent movement in exchange rates. Reductions are expected in the near future for the same reason in the prices of certain babyfoods and instant coffee.

I should add that but for an increase in the Government subsidy in August the consumer would currently be paying a higher price for milk.
