Vol. 330 No. 13

Written Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital.

573.

asked the Minister for Health if she is making funds available for the radiotherapy department at Cork Regional Hospital, which has neither the resources nor the facilities to cater for the demands made on it by cancer patients at present.

574.

asked the Minister for Health the finance requested by the Southern Health Board for the unit at the radiotherapy department of Cork Regional Hospital.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 573 and 574 together.

The Southern Health Board have sought funds for the development of their radiotherapy department at Cork Regional Hospital and their proposals are being examined in my Department. I hope to arrive at a decision in the matter at an early date. My decision will of course be dependent upon the resources made available to my Department for the coming year.

I cannot be precise as to the capital cost involved. The equipment sought would cost £465,000 and there is, in addition, building work proposed.
