Vol. 331 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

627.

(Clare) asked the Minister for the Environment when Kilfenora sewerage scheme, County Clare, will be ready to commence.

Tenders for the civil works for this scheme were received in my Department on 6 November 1981. My Department asked Clare County Council to supply additional information on 16 November 1981 and the submission of this information is awaited. I am not at present in a position to say when work on this scheme will commence.

628.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress that has been made in providing a sewerage scheme at Paulstown, County Kilkenny; and when work on this scheme will commence.

Revised preliminary proposals for the Paulstown sewerage scheme were approved on 28 May 1981. I am not at present in a position to say when the planning of the scheme will be completed or when work is likely to commence.

629.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in providing a sewerage scheme for Clonmellan, County Westmeath.

Westmeath County Council's proposal for the Clonmellan sewerage scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such schemes in progress or approaching construction at present. Having regard to the need to conserve capital for schemes of the highest priority, I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the local authority on the contract documents for the scheme.

630.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position in relation to the north Westmeath group water scheme.

The design for this group scheme has been approved both by my Department and Westmeath County Council, subject to certain modifications. The group is however dependent for a supply of water on Stage 2 of the Castlepollard regional scheme, contract documents for which are under consideration in my Department. I cannot at this stage indicate when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the council on the latter scheme.

631.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress that has been made in providing a sewerage scheme at Fiddown/Piltown, County Kilkenny; and when work on this scheme will commence.

The local authority's proposals for this scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such schemes in progress or getting to construction at present for which adequate finance must be provided. I cannot as yet indicate when I will be in a position to approve of contract documents for this scheme, which are under consideration in my Department, or when work is likely to commence.
