Vol. 331 No. 9

Written Answers. - Offaly School Transport.

619.

asked the Minister for Education the reason school transport is not used to collect children from their homes (details supplied) in County Offaly who are attending High Street National School, Belmont, County Offaly.

Prior to June 1981, pupils of the three families referred to by the Deputy had home pick-up points on the service to High Street National School, Belmont.

However, due to an increase in the number of post-primary pupils offering for transport in the Ferbane area it was necessary for CIE to re-organise post-primary transport services in the general area. This affected services to primary schools in the area including High Street National School.

The eight children are at distances of 1.4 miles, 0.4 miles and 0.3 miles from the present pick-up point at Moystone Cross. This standard of service is within the limits of acceptability for the Scheme as a whole throughout the country.

Restoration of door-to-door facilities to these pupils would necessitate the advancement of the time-table of the post-primary service also operated by the vehicle concerned, which would detrimentally affect the standard of service enjoyed by the post-primary pupils.
