asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to pay a reclamation grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

There is no record of an application in respect of a reclamation grant from the person named.

However, an application was received from a similarly named person in the same area. The grant in this case will be paid within the next week.

381.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will sanction an application for a disadvantaged area grant by a person (details supplied) in County Cork as his nett farm income is approximately £1,500 under the qualifying limit.

As the person named had an off-farm income in excess of the limit of £4,750 for the income tax year ended 5 April 1981 he is not eligible to participate in the 1981 cattle headage scheme for the disadvantaged areas. Eligibility is determined by reference to gross off-farm income and it is not proposed to alter this condition. If off-farm income (net of tax) were taken, it would penalise farmers with dependants and favour farmers with no dependants.

Payment of the 1980-81 suckler cow grant, which had been delayed pending the registration of the applicant as herd owner, was made last week.

The 1981-82 suckler cow grant will be paid at the end of February 1982 when the six months' retention period specified in the scheme expires.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a cattle headage grant to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

Participation in the 1981 cattle headage payments scheme was confined to applicants whose off-farm income did not exceed £4,750 in the tax year ended 5 April 1981. The person named was asked on 27 November 1981 and again on 21 January 1982 to supply details of his off-farm earnings. When he does so, his eligibility for participation in the scheme will be determined.
