A grant of £166,000 towards the cost of providing a sports centre was allocated to Sligo Corporation in May 1980 under the National Programme for the Provision of Recreational Facilities. Building work on the centre has not yet started.
Sligo Corporation has also applied to my Department under the Community, Youth, Recreational and Employment Programme for the allocation of a supplementary grant of £151,000 towards this development. My Department are currently engaged in examining the applications received under this scheme and it is expected that this examination will not be completed for several weeks. Until all applications are fully examined I will not be in a position to say which projects may qualify for grant-aid.
