Vol. 333 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - McKinsey Report on CIE.

10.

(Limerick-East) asked the Minister for Transport if he accepts the findings of the McKinsey Report; and if he intends to implement it in full or in part.

I am at present considering the McKinsey Report on CIE but no decisions have yet been made regarding the implementation of its recommendations either in whole or part.

On a point of order, in view of your disgraceful non-permission to me to ask more than——

That is not a point of order. You know what you can do about that but you cannot erase my ruling now.

I wish to give notice that I intend to raise this matter on the adjournment this evening.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

(Limerick-East): I could not hear the Minister's reply. Would he repeat it?

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I will read the reply again. I am at present considering the McKinsey Report on CIE but no decisions have yet been made regarding the implementation of its recommendations either in whole or in part.

(Limerick-East): In view of the serious concern expressed by many people in the country, and especially by CIE staff, when will the Minister be in a position to make a decision on the McKinsey Report?

I am doing a lot of reading at the moment. I have read two summaries of the Report and I am studying it with a view to bringing proposals before the Government arising out of it.

(Limerick-East): Is it under active consideration or under passive consideration by the Minister's Department?

All my considerations are active.

That would make a change.

That is very unkind, and not true.

Ever since the publication of the McKinsey Report there has been great concern in Wexford and especially in Rosslare, and many representations were made to the Minister's predecessor, regarding fears for the Dublin-Rosslare line, especially the portion from Arklow to Rosslare. Could the Minister reassure the people concerned that there will be no threat to this line?

There is no threat contained in the McKinsey Report.
