Vol. 333 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kells (Meath) Post Box Re-siting.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the post box in Kilmainhamwood Village, Kells, County Meath, will be re-sited and the service restored.

The letterbox, which was closed because its contents were interfered with on a number of occasions, will be restored to service as soon as the Garda advise that it is safe to do so. The present location of the box is convenient to the public and it is not proposed to change it unless the Garda advise otherwise.

In view of the fact that this has been interfered with on numerous occasions the Minister should suggest to the Garda or the Department that this location be changed, as I believe there are two or three more suitable places which could be watched. When the letters have been removed from the box on a number of occasions this has happened just before the collection took place.

I ask the Minister that a better site be got for this letterbox.

As the Deputy is aware, due to the complaints the box was taken out of service on 12 February 1982. As far as my Department are concerned the present location of the box is convenient for the public. It is not proposed to change it unless the Garda advise otherwise. If they do then my Department will consider an alternative location which I hope will be in keeping with the position about which the Deputy will be happy.

When does the Minister of State think that this service will be restored?

That is a separate question and I advise the Deputy to put down a question in due course.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

Could I have written answers to my Questions Nos. 49, 50, 131, 133, 160, 161 and 162?
