My Department have agreed to the extension and adaptation of Kilmainhamwood National School, County Meath, to provide four classrooms and a general purposes room. asked the Minister for Education when it is intended to provide financial aid to the Christian Brothers secondary school in Templemore, County Tipperary in order to help meet the cost of repairs to the school roof and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the fact that an application for financial aid was first made to his Department on 19 March 1981 and that no response has yet been given to the application notwithstanding the fact that in the meantime the roof has deteriorated very considerably and that its condition has necessitated the closure of part of the school.

Grants are not normally payable in respect of works of repair and maintenance at secondary schools. However, because of the incidence of serious roof defects arising from exceptional circumstances, it has been decided to grant aid in such cases.

The Christian Brothers' secondary school in Templemore now qualifies for a grant, which will be paid to the school authorities at an early date.

A report is awaited from the Commissioners of Public Works regarding improvements which the board of management of Kilkishen National School wish to have carried out to the school site.

I understand that the commissioners' report and recommendation will be available at an early date.
