Vol. 333 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

83.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying occupational injury benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he will now arrange for payment.

The person concerned claimed occupational injury benefit in respect of an accident at work, on 16 June 1981. It was necessary before the claim could be authorised to have inquiries made as to the nature and origin of the incapacity. As there was some conflict as to the origin of the incapacity the inquiries proved more protracted than had been anticipated. In was eventually decided in December 1981 that the incapacity was due to an accident at work and the claimant was notified accordingly. Payment of injury benefit should have been made at that stage but through an oversight the cheque did not issue until 26 March 1982.

84.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give an up-to-date report on the claim for injury/disability benefit of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will confirm that he has received the entitlements due to him.

The person concerned claimed occupational injury benefit in respect of an accident at work on 17 December 1981. Pending inquiries as to the nature and origin of the incapacity he was paid disability benefit and pay-related benefit on an interim basis.

On completion of the inquiries it was accepted that the incapacity was in fact due to an accident at work and injury benefit was allowed at the maximum appropriate rate from 18 December 1981. Payment of all injury benefit and pay-related benefit due to 16 January 1982 after which date he was certified fit to resume work less the amount of interim disability benefit and pay-related benefit already paid has since been made.
