844.

asked the Minister for Health the present position in relation to the proposal to provide a shelter for homeless men in Galway city.

Services for homeless men in Galway are being provided at present in the following locations:

(i) at De Montfort House, Upper Fairhill Road. This facility is run by the Legion of Mary and is funded by way of health board grant and charitable donations;

(ii) on a temporary basis, in a prefabricated building erected at Fair Green. This hostel is run by the Simon Community.

The provision of a permanent hostel is being considered by Galway Social Services Council, Galway Corporation and the Western Health Board.
