Vol. 333 No. 8

Written Answers. - Agricultural Holdings.

564.

asked the Taoiseach the current estimated number of farmers with agricultural holdings in each of the following ranges of rateable valuations: over £100; over £75; over £60; over £50; and over £40.

The 1971 Census of Population provides the most recent information of the kind requested by the Deputy. The number of private households enumerated in that census, which contained at least one person with the occupation of farmer, and for which the aggregate rateable valuation of agricultural holdings held by persons usually resident in the households was £40 or more, was as follows:

Aggregate Rateable Valuation

Households with at least one farmer

£40 and under £50

10,972

£50 and under £60

7,477

£60 and under £75

7,057

£75 and under £100

6,344

£100 and over

9,184

It should be noted that where there was more than one rated occupier of an agricultural holding usually resident in a household, information was collected only on the combined valuation of these holdings. The rateable valuation of land rented by persons usually resident in the households was not included.
