Vol. 333 No. 9

Written Answers. - Old Age Pension Tax.

510.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin is now being taxed on his old age pension, which up to recently was granted tax free, as he is now alleged to be entitled to a tax free allowance of £62 only; and if, in view of the fact that he will be 76 years next June, he will consider the case as sympathetically as possible.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has now issued an exemption certificate for the year 1982-83 which takes account of the increased exemption limit provided for in the budget. When that certificate is put into operation by his former employer, any tax which has been deducted from his retirement pension in the current year will be refunded to him.
