My Department offered Galway County Council a grant towards the cost of providing lighting on Roundstone Pier.
I understand that after the erection of the poles Galway County Council received complaints from Bord Fáilte about the type of poles used and the council recently requested my Department to provide a grant to replace the timber poles with aluminium poles. This additional expenditure would not be warranted in the fisheries interest.
Following requests by local fishermen my Department is considering grant-aiding the provision of leading lights at the pier and quay at Roundstone.
