Since the coming into operation of the Fire Services Act, 1981, there is specific statutory authority for Donegal County Council to carry out or assist in any operations of an emergency nature and, accordingly, the fire service or any other local authority service may be called on to contribute in whatever way it can to the rescue or safeguarding of persons in an emergency. Other services, such as the ambulance service, Garda Síochána, Army and Civil Defence, are also available.
