Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Incentive Scheme.

590.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason the Kerry cow does not qualify under suckler cow incentive scheme.

Pure-bred Kerry cows were ineligible under the 1980 EEC suckler cow scheme as the breed was not regarded as suitable for the production of good quality beef. Under an amendment agreed last year by the EEC, however, Kerry cows qualified for premiums under the 1981 scheme if inseminated by bulls of a beef breed.
