Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Public Service Pension Schemes.

611.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will furnish the following particulars of public service pension schemes sanctioned by his Department and at present in operation other than those co-ordinated schemes and schemes under the Superannuation Acts, 1948 and 1956; (1) title of scheme, (2) date of last amendment, (3) employee contribution per £100 of pay for gratuity, (4) employee contribution per £100 of pay for pension, (5) employee contribution per £100 of pay for widows' pensions, (6) maximum lump sum or gratuity and (7) maximum pension as a percentage of retiring pay.

In so far as the Civil Service is concerned the information sought by the Deputy is as follows:—

(1) Title of scheme: The superannuation code as enshrined in the Superannuation Acts, 1834 to 1976. (2) Date of last amendment: Civil Service Superannuation Regulations, 1980, made under section 3 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1976, giving effect to a number of amendments in the superannuation code. (3) and (4) Employee contribution per £100 of pay for gratuity and pension: The civil service scheme is non-contributory. (5) Employee contribution per £100 of pay for widows' pensions: The contribution rate under the Civil Service Spouses' and Children's Contributory Pension Scheme is 1½ per cent. (6) Maximum lump sum or gratuity: One and a half (1½) times final pensionable salary. (7) Maximum pension as a percentage of retiring pay: Half salary, except for female established civil servants serving on 12 April 1954 who did not adopt the provisions of the Superannuation Act, 1954, who are eligible for a pension of two-thirds (2/3rds) salary but no retiring lump sum.

In so far as information may be required in respect of schemes relating to other areas of the public service, it is suggested that the matter might be raised with the Ministers under whose aegis those areas are covered.
