Vol. 334 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway Fisheries.

217.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the date the St. George Oyster Fisheries, County Galway, came into state ownership; the acquisition price; if he will give details of future plans for the development of this oyster fishery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

218.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the position in regard to the development of the St. George fishery at Clarinbridge, County Galway.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 217 and 218 together.

The St. George Oyster Fishery was acquired by the State on 23 November 1981. It is not the practice to reveal the financial details of transactions of this nature.

The formulation of a development plan for the fishery is awaiting the outcome of surveys and feasibility studies which are currently being undertaken.
