Vol. 334 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Estate Crime and Vandalism.

665.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the increasing concern of residents many of whom are elderly people in the St. Bricin's Park Estate, Dublin, because of a noticeable increase in crime and vandalism within the last few months; and if he has any proposals to bring about any improvement in the situation or if he will assign extra gardaí to the station with jurisdiction in this area in view of the seriousness of the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the increased incidence of crime and vandalism in the St. Bricin's Park area is a matter of particular concern and special measures have been taken to deal with the situation through the provision of special additional uniformed patrols which operate for up to eight hours each day and supplement the normal uniformed and plain clothes patrols.

The area is served from the Bridewell station, to which an extra garda was assigned on 7 May, and the question of further increasing the strength at the centre will be considered according as additional manpower becomes available for assignment.
