asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in installing a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

It has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of the large volume of work on hands in the Galway area. It is expected that service will be provided within about a month.

718.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone will be connected for a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the new post office at Neilstown, Clondalkin, County Dublin, will open; its location; and the reasons for the delay in its opening.

Alternations to enable a sub-post office to be opened at Neilstown shopping centre had to be carried out and these necessarily took some time.

It is expected the office will be opened in the next two weeks.

(Dublin North-Central) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Clontarf, Dublin, who runs a business and requires the use of a telephone urgently.

Telephone service has been provided.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7; and if priority will be given to this applicant as the circumstances are urgent.

A measure of priority is accorded to applications from people such as the person named who qualify for inclusion in the telephone rental subsidy scheme. However, the best forecast that can be given at this stage is within about a year.

724.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the various categories of priority applicable to applicants for telephones; and the number in each category.

There is the one priority category only for the provision of telephone service. About 40 per cent of the connections made each year are for applicants qualifying for priority.

725.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin who has had a telephone installed since November last but who has not had it connected, has now received a letter from his Department telling him that it will now not be possible to provide a telephone service, although this person paid a deposit of over £300 and urgently requires service for his business; if he is aware that telephones are being installed in the immediate area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

When advance payment was collected from the person named in November 1981 it was expected that service would be provided within two to three months.

Regrettably the cable was found to be faulty at the installation stage. The matter is having attention and it is expected that service will be provided within about a month.

It is normal practice to offer a refund of advance payments when it is not possible to complete a connection within the three-month period.

726.
