Vol. 334 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Refuse Collection.

898.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a curtailment of the refuse collection in County Cork could create a health hazard and that the pile-up of refuse at the many points of collection is unsightly and gives a bad impression to tourists; and if his officials will raise the matter with the officials of Cork County Council to have the matter rectified immediately.

It is a matter for each local authority to decide as to the frequency and regularity of their domestic refuse collection services. Inquiries have been made from the Cork County Council in regard to the points raised by the Deputy and it has been ascertained that revised refuse collection arrangements have recently been adopted. The council are satisfied that the new arrangements will not lead to a situation in which there will be a health hazard. It is to be expected that the position will be kept under review by the county council.
