Vol. 334 No. 8

Written Answers. - Pre-School Facilities.

743.

asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, the Government have for the provision of adequate pre-school facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government's present policy in relation to day-care services for pre-school children is to make funds available, so far as resources will allow, for the provision of such facilities throughout the country. Generally speaking, this is done by way of financially assisting and encouraging voluntary organisations to establish centres for children, with particular reference to the needs of children of disadvantaged families. I have made an extra £400,000 available in this year's Estimates to enable health boards to increase their resources for supporting existing day-care services and promoting new ones.
