Vol. 334 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Mayo Industrial Expansion.

766.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy his Department's programme for industrial expansion in County Mayo.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that in the first four years of their 1978-82 Industrial Plan they approved more than 230 projects for County Mayo, which have the potential to provide almost 2,500 jobs at full production. Many of these jobs have yet to come on stream. Manufacturing employment in County Mayo is now 3 per cent higher than in 1978. The IDA also have over 150,000 square feet of advance factory space and 126 acres of land available throughout the county for further industrial development. These facilities are being vigorously promoted for industrial projects, and will provide the basis for further growth in manufacturing industry in the county. In addition the IDA are now in the process of preparing, in conjunction with local interests in the Mayo area, an action plan for the promotion of industrial development over the next two years.
