Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Stations.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to Bridewell Garda station, Dublin whether he is satisfied with the conditions there; how much has been spent in each of the last five years on maintenance and improvements; and the plans he has for further improvements to bring conditions up to an acceptable and satisfactory standard.

I am not fully satisfied with conditions in this station at the present time. A major scheme for extension of this station has been sanctioned and planning approval obtained. The preparation of detail plans for the work is now in progress. A minor scheme is also under consideration so that the present overcrowding can be relieved pending the completion of the major scheme.

Expenditure on improvement for each of the past five years at this station was as follows:—1977, £258.16; 1978, £422.99; 1979, £394.34; 1980, £1,600.00; 1981, £1,724.30.

The cost of maintenance at individual Garda stations are not available. Those for Bridewell station are included in the overall maintenance figures for the Metropolitan area which were as follows:—1977, £268,195.29; 1978, £374,968.49; 1979, £437,287.37; 1980, £548,406.08; 1981, £787,307.77.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to Mountjoy Garda station, Dublin, whether he is satisfied with conditions there; how much has been spent in each of the last five years on maintenance and improvements; and the plans he has for further improvements to bring conditions up to an acceptable and satisfactory standard.

A major reconstruction scheme was carried out in this station in 1974-75 and I am satisfied that it has been maintained in good condition since that time. This is continuing within the resources available for such work.

The expenditure on improvements for each of the past five years was as follows:—1977, Nil; 1978, £416.98; 1979, £354.07; 1980, Nil; 1981, Nil.

The costs of maintenance at individual stations are not available. Those for Mountjoy station are included in the overall figures for maintenance of Garda stations in the Metropolitan area which were as follows:—1977, £268,195.29; 1978, £374,968.49; 1979, £437,287.37; 1980, £548,406.08; 1981, £787,307.77.

There are at present no plans for a major scheme of improvements at this station.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to Cabra Garda station, Dublin whether he is satisfied with conditions there; how much has been spent on maintenance and improvements, and the plans he has for further improvements to bring conditions up to an acceptable and satisfactory standard.

I am satisfied that this relatively new station is in very good condition. Expenditure on improvements for each of the past five years was as follows:—1977, £2,061.45; 1978, Nil; 1979, Nil; 1980, Nil; 1981, Nil.

Maintenance costs for individual Garda stations are not available, those for Cabra being included in the figures for the Metropolitan area which were as follows:—1977, £268,195.29; 1978, £374,968.49; 1979, £437,287.37; 1980, £548,406.08; 1981, £787,307.77.

A scheme to relieve overcrowding in the station is at present under consideration.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to Store Street Garda station, Dublin whether he is satisfied with conditions there; how much has been spent in each of the last five years on maintenance and improvements; and the plans he has for further improvements to bring conditions up to an acceptable and satisfactory standard.

This Garda station was the subject of a major reconstruction scheme less than ten years ago and I am satisfied that it is still in good condition.

Expenditure on improvements for each of the past five years was as follows:—1977, £7,200.43; 1978, £14,713.64; 1979, £1,100.00; 1980, Nil; 1981, £14,500.00.

The costs of maintenance at individual Garda stations are not available, those for Store Street station are included in the overall maintenance figures for the Metropolitan area which were as follows:—1977, £268,195.29; 1978, £374,968.49; 1979, £437,287.37; 1980, £548,406.08; 1981, £787,307.77.

A vacant site adjacent to this station was purchased last year but there are no immediate plans for its development. As an interim measure the site is being enclosed and tarmacadammed for use by the station.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to Fitzgibbon Street Garda station, whether he is satisfied with the conditions there; how much has been spent in each of the last five years on maintenance and improvements; and the plans he has for further improvements to bring conditions up to an acceptable and satisfactory standard.

I am reasonably satisfied with the condition of this station at the present time. Within the limits of the resources available for the work, maintenance and improvements are carried out as they arise. Expenditure on improvements for each of the past five years was as follows:—1977, Nil; 1978, Nil; 1979, Nil; 1980, £1,302.95; 1981, £2,530.73.

The costs of maintenance at individual Garda stations are not available. Those for Fitzgibbon Street station are included in the overall maintenance figures for the Metropolitan area which were as follows:—1977, £268,195.29; 1978, £374,968.49; 1979, £437,287.37; 1980, £548,406.08; 1981, £787,307.77.
