Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computer Science Option.

886.

asked the Minister for Education the number of students who took the computer science option in last year's leaving certificate examination; the number of students who will avail themselves of this option this year; if there is any element of school based assessment in this examination; and, if so, whether the teachers involved in such assessment are remunerated for this work.

In the 1980-81 school year a total of 1,509 pupils took the computer science option as part of their leaving certificate course in mathematics. The figure this year is 4,000. The computer science option does not form part of the leaving certificate examination and, accordingly, a school based assessment of the work of pupils in this regard is not made for the purpose of the examination.
