Vol. 335 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

897.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that children travelling from Churchtown, Mallow, County Cork, to Doneraile post primary school are being refused transport on the bus travelling from Churchtown to Buttevant; and the action he intends to alleviate the resulting hardship.

The pupils in question are in the Buttevant post-primary catchment area. Under the terms of the school transport scheme special bus services are provided to bring eligible pupils to schools in the post-primary centre appropriate to their catchment area.

What the pupils here are seeking is to use the service operating from their area to the appropriate centre so that they may avail of a public scheduled bus to bring them on to Doneraile.

It is not open to my Department to allow these special services to be used by pupils so as to enable them to attend a centre other than the appropriate one.
