Vol. 336 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wexford Urban Boundaries.

1037.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the urban boundaries for (a) Enniscorthy Urban Council, (b) Wexford Corporation, (c) New Ross Urban Council and (d) Gorey Town Commissioners will be extended.

Under the Local Authorities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1936, the initiation of action for the alteration of the boundary of an urban district is a matter for the urban district council, who may apply to the relevant county council for an appropriate order. I understand that no such application has been made to Wexford County Council by either Enniscorthy or New Ross Urban District Councils.

Similarly, it is a matter for Wexford Corporation to initiate action for the alteration of the boundary of the borough. Under Article 25 of the Schedule to the Local Government (application of Enactments) Order, 1898 the corporation may apply to me for an order extending the borough boundary. I have not received any application to extend the boundary of the borough of Wexford.

I am not aware of any proposal to alter or extend the town boundary on the part of Gorey Town Commissioners.
