Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Farm Building Grants.

502.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if new low cost buildings will qualify for grants under the present modernisation schemes for farm buildings in view of the enormous number of cattle kept outdoors during the winter.

Grant aid is available under the farm modernisation scheme and the programme for western development for various types of cattle housing such as kennels, byres, loose houses, cubicle houses and slatted houses constructed to approved specifications. The housing may be constructed from traditional materials such as concrete, timber and galvanised iron or from approved synthetic materials. Houses constructed mainly from timber are also eligible.

The regulations governing slurry storage and disposal and the requirements of the planning authority must of course be met.
