Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Widows PRSI Contributions.

616.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the position regarding the payment of PRSI contributions by widows; if he will state in a case (details supplied) if the person in Inchicore, Dublin 8, is entitled to a refund of PRSI contributions made since 6 April 1982; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the PRSI system payment of the employee's share of the PRSI contribution is waived in the case of women in insurable employment who are in receipt of a widow's pension from my Department or under the social security legislation of another EEC country.

It is understood from the employers that PRSI contributions are not being deducted from the wages of the person concerned and in the circumstances the question of a refund of such contributions does not arise. The sum of £32 referred to by the Deputy relates to a refund of income tax which the employer states was not due to her.
