Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway Construction Projects.

242.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will give details of construction projects funded by his Department to be undertaken in County Galway during 1982; and if he will state in each case the amount provided in the 1982 Estimates.

Galway Harbour Commissioners are seeking to acquire a site at Lough Atalia for harbour development purposes. In that connection it will be necessary for the commissioners to undertake road works and the construction of a bridge to provide access. £80,000 was provided in the Government's capital programme for 1982 as a grant towards the cost of these works. It is not possible to say at this stage whether expenditure will be incurred on the project in the current year.

It is assumed that the question relates only to construction of buildings. As the list of construction projects being undertaken and scheduled to be undertaken by my Department in 1982 is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose to circulate it with the Official Report.

A list of projects at present under construction or scheduled to commence shortly in County Galway, for which financing is available from my Department, has been prepared in the form of a table which will be circulated with the Official Report.

Funding for school construction is not provided in the Estimates on an individual school basis. The total amounts available in the Estimate for primary and second level school projects are £27,000,000 and £42,450,000, respectively, and these amounts are fully adequate to meet the cost of all new projects which may be undertaken during 1982.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of construction projects funded by his Department to be undertaken in County Galway during 1982; and if he will state in each case the amount provided in the 1982 Estimates.

Work is in progress on a scheme of extensions to the maternity unit at Galway Regional Hospital. Minor upgrading works are being carried out at St. Brigid's Psychiatric Hospital, Ballinasloe. In addition, the Western Health Board have been authorised to proceed with the building work associated with the provision of the CAT scanner at Galway Regional Hospital. Expenditure on these schemes will be recouped as work progresses.

I am considering the position in relation to other schemes in the County Galway area, which were stopped by the Coalition Government, with a view to restoring them to the programme as soon as resources are available.
