Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Facilities for County Wicklow Handicapped Children.

573.

asked the Minister for Health if he will provide the necessary funds to the Eastern Health Board to provide day care facilities for handicapped children in Bray town, County Wicklow, since the cost of transport to centres in Dublin is too expensive for parents.

There are three centres in the north Wicklow area which cater for handicapped children. They are Sunbeam House in Bray and Newcastle school, which cater for mentally handicapped children, and Marino Clinic in Bray, which caters for physically handicapped children. I understand that the Eastern Health Board regard these facilities as adequate to meet the needs of the area.

Transport is generally provided free of charge for handicapped children attending special schools or day care centres. However, if the Deputy is aware of a particular case where difficulties have arisen I would be glad to investigate the matter.
