Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Regional Hospital Appointments.

285.

asked the Minister for Health when he will be able to fund the following posts:—(a) anaesthetist (maximum part time) for Roscommon county hospital, (b) consultant psychiatrist for the psychiatric unit, Galway regional hospital, (c) consultant surgeon for Galway regional hospital/Merlin Park regional hospital, Galway, (d) consultant haematologist, cardiologist and opthalmic surgeon for Galway regional hospital, (e) consultant anaesthetist and paediatrician for Castlebar general hospital, and (f) consultant radiologist for the CAT scanner at Galway regional hospital.

The post of anaesthetist (maximum part-time) for Roscommon County Hospital has not been finally approved by Comhairle na nOspidéal. The position of cardiologist at Galway Regional Hospital is a replacement post which is being processed by the Western Health Board at present. The remainder of the posts referred to by the Deputy are among a number of consultant posts approved by Comhairle na nOspidéal, the filling of which has to be considered in the light of the funds available. The question of allocating funds to enable these posts to be filled will depend on the availability of financial resources for the creation of new posts in the health services.

Questions Nos. 286 and 287 postponed.
