Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Shannon Tourism and Recreation Study.

448.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason Ballinasloe was not included in the Brady-Shipman-Martin Report on management of the River Shannon; and if he will commission a separate report to ensure that they will consider the River Suck to be made navigable as far as Ballinasloe.

Ballinasloe was not covered by the Shannon Tourism and Recreation Study, published in 1976, because it is situated outside the area over which the Commissioners of Public Works have jurisdiction under the Shannon Navigation Acts.

As the resources of the commissioners are at present fully committed on the development of the navigation within their jurisdiction, I do not propose to commission a report on the extension of the navigation to Ballinasloe at this stage.
