Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - New Ross Compounds Leasing.

452.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will reduce to a nominal sum the charge of £2,500 that his Department intend to impose on New Ross Harbour Commissioners for the lease of the compounds at New Ross as the Harbour Commissioners intend to sub-let the compounds in exchange for other property to New Ross Urban District Council whose produce of 1p rates will raise only £200 and this imposition will add a further 12½p to the already over-burdened ratepayers and the compound to date has been held under licence to the Harbour Commissioners from his Department with no financial gain to his Department.

New Ross Harbour Commissioners have accepted the terms of the proposed lease in this case including the rent of £2,500 which was fixed at this level by my Department on the basis of advice received from the Valuation Office. If the commissioners now consider that the rent is excessive they should submit an appeal to my Department and the matter will be re-examined.
