Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Crossmaglen (Armagh) GAA Grounds.

92.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the further progress, if any, that has been made to have sections of the British Army removed from the GAA pitch at Crossmaglen, County Armagh.

Since the last statement about this matter given in the House on 23 October 1980 the Government have continued to express to the British authorities their concern about developments at Crossmaglen GAA grounds. About half of the land requisitioned by the British Army in 1974 was restored to the GAA in September 1980. The British authorities informed the Embassy in London last November that the remainder of the land will be returned to the GAA as soon as it is no longer needed, but that it would be unrealistic to expect that this will be in the foreseeable future. The Government will continue however to raise the matter with the British authorities and, in close consultation with the GAA, to seek a comprehensive resolution of the problem as soon as possible.
