Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - RTE 2 Reception.

147.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the poor or less than adequate reception of RTE 2 in the Cahir, Cashel, Newcastle and Nire Valley areas of South Tipperary; and the measures he intends to take to remedy this most unsatisfactory situation.

The areas referred to by the Deputy are served by the Mount Leinster transmitter. RTE completed the modification and rebuilding of transmit aerials at the Mount Leinster transmitter in 1981. Considerable improvement in reception has been recorded over much of the Cahir, Cashel, Newcastle and Nire Valley areas. Despite the improvements achieved, some areas will remain inadequately served. It will only be after further surveys have been completed and analysed later this year that those remaining areas will be properly identified and appropriate reception improvement possibilities considered. This work will be limited by the availability of resources and capital.
