Vol. 338 No. 2

Written Answers. - Castleisland (Kerry) Crime Level.

303.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in the level of crime in the area of Castleisland, County Kerry, he will consider increasing the number of gardaí stationed there.

The detailed deployment of members of the force is a matter primarily for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the question of filling a vacancy for a sergeant which arose at Castleisland on 22 October 1982 on the retirement of the serving member will be considered as soon as circumstances permit. Apart from that, the Garda authorities have no proposals at present to assign additional manpower to the station. They consider that, having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services, the strength allocated to Castleisland is reasonably adequate to meet the police needs of the area but the matter will be kept under review.
